Development of the core system at RGB Daily is complete. Much of the hold up has been because I have personally overhauled most of the functionality in preparation for the big reveal. Back-end performance fixes and front end AJAX enhancements have characterized most of the work. Outsourcing core functionality only goes so far and is good for only certain types of work (front end design mainly). In the past year I have fundamentally changed the operational model of RGB Daily; the system has gone from a link sharing site to a velvet rope information discovery destionation. The rich social overlay remains the same, but has been enhanced. For the first time all the components of the system talk to each other.
So what's next? You're here because the splash screen sent you here. Where's the live site? Partners and interested parties have seen the site and feedback has been good. The next step for launch is to import all of the data sources which drive the topics on RGB Daily. Automated solutions have been built for this task, however that would remove much of the editorial control. I believe editorial control is critical to creating an engaging and relevant launch experience. So the grind begins. Wish me luck, I'll keep you in the know.
Take care,
Travell

Just a quick update. Yes we are still alive and kicking, several adjustments have been made to accommodate the long term needs of the site. In the past year we have learned a lot about what works and more importantly what does not work in social media. Along with that we have been working hard to improve the overall quality of the site. We are in this race for the long haul so there is no need to launch with a sub standard solution. That said, we are putting the final touches on things for launch and looking to build out the business end of the team. We'll keep you posted.

Its been a long time coming, but we are ready to deploy to the production servers. For the rest of the month we will be making sure RGB Daily is ready for a strong formal launch for February. The feature set is solid, we have a few bugs, but nothing that should hold up the train for deployment. Wish us luck!

Its been pretty busy over here at RGB Daily and we are in the process of transition. You might have noticed some changes to the blog. Primarily that the blog is no longer running on Wordpress and is now a "site" at Google. I guess this is the most public manifestation of our business continuity plan at RGB Daily. We have made a lot of changes by way of hosting for RGB Daily proper. We don't want any future changes to effect how we run the back office. We want to also make sure that we can scale effectively as we bring on new people and roles within the organization. There use to be a time when companies use to wrap their business processes around doing things the Microsoft way. Well at RGB Daily we want to try to get things done using Google on the back-end for as many things as possible. Its a public company with a solid business model which means that its not going anywhere. Given these rough financial times it is important for your SaaS provider to be resilient for the short and long term. With the transition to Google Apps now fully in place we can turn our attention back to getting the core product out. Our soft launch is in 63 days and we won't be slipping on the date. |

RGB Daily became RGB Daily, LLC on June 10, 2008! We are glad that
we are now an official entity recognized by the state of
Massachusetts. Half of the battle in Web 2.0 is the partnerships that
are forged with other services and that involves lawyers. As a
legitimate legal entity deal making gets a lot easier.
As for the code base we are 100% feature complete. Over the next
week we will be cleaning up the codebase for the launch. Over 9 months
in the making, we are ready to show off all of our hard work. There
has been a lot of evolution in the service and we hope it will serve
our users well. Once we launch we will start introducing all of the
cool features that are available at RGB Daily.com. Originally posted June 10, 2008 |
